[Publication] Our first paper from a collaborative research with Thai NHSO titled “Hospital admission for type 2 diabetes mellitus under the Universal Coverage Scheme in Thailand: a time- and geographical-trend analysis, 2009–2016” has been published on PLOS ONE

A joint research paper by the Institute for Global Health Policy Research (iGHP) of the National Center for International Medical Research (NCGM) and Thailand's National Health Security Office (NHSO) was published in PLOS ONE.

Th ecollaborative research project stemmed from a project of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with the governments of Japan and Thailand, with to the aims to conduct research using medical big data to contribute to evidence-based policy making. As a main research institute partner in Japan, iGHP, has been conducting research together with the Thai NHSO on diabetes, asthma, and health care financing by utilizing the big data of approximately 47 million Thai citizens’ health insurance claims data, covering roughly 70% of the population over the period of 8 years,. Through this collaborative research, iGHP and NHSO has been working on the development of research promotion infrastructure and strengthening the capacity of young scientists.

Today, a paper authored by a young staff member of the Thai NHSO, Mr. Tanapat Laowahutanon, and a former iGHP staff, Ms. Haruyo Nakamura, that analyzes the time- and geographical trends of hospitalized patients with diabetes, has been published. We plan to continue our research activities with NHSO so that the findings from our research can inform the decision making of Thailand's healthcare policy and contribute to the improvement of healthcare in other countries.
