MESSAGE

Prof. Shirai aims to understand Social Determinants of Healthy Aging in Japan as well as in the globe, to contribute to closing the gap of health inequalities especially among older populations.

NARRATIVE CV

Prof. Shirai is currently working as a Project Associate Professor of Public Health, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine, and a Senior Research Fellow of Institute of Global Health Policy Research (iGHP). She also works as a research associate at T.H.Chan Harvard School of Public Health, and an invited associate professor of Peking University in China. She received her Ph.D degree from Dept. of Public Health, Osaka University and worked as a research fellow and specially appointed assistant professor in Osaka after her graduation. Since 2009, she worked as an associate professor in the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa and returned to Osaka in 2017. Previously, she conducted her research as a Fulbright scholar at Institute of Social Research (ISR), University of Michigan and at Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) in Boston. In 2010, she was a Takemi International Research Fellow in the Dept. of Global Health at HSPH, and started her work as a Research Fellow at Dept. of Society Behavioral Science (SBS) afterward. Previously, she joined GNH survey project in Bhutan and served as an advisor at Center for Bhutan Studies.
