MESSAGE

My research aims to increase understanding of modifiable risk factors and protective factors during childhood for non-communicable disease (NCD), including mental health conditions in Japan and globally. I am also interested in clarifying factors to promote child development. I have a particular interest in the prevention of NCDs and promoting health/development among minority and vulnerable population, including people with developmental disorders.

NARRATIVE CV

Mariko Hosozawa received her MD from Tsukuba University in 2005 and her PhD in paediatrics and adolescent medicine from Juntendo University in 2012. She is a board-certified supervisory paediatrician of the Japanese Paediatric Society and a board-certified physician of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Psychiatry and Neurology. She has worked as a paediatrician specializing in child development and psychiatry in Japan and as a researcher in Japan and the UK. Her clinical experience brought her to conduct research on promoting life-long health and development of children (particularly among the vulnerable population). She uses large cohort studies to investigate risk/protective factors and consequences of mental health during childhood/adolescence using a lifecourse approach. Her recent work focuses on the international comparison of adolescents’ mental health and related experiences across countries from different cultural and economic backgrounds.
