[Paper/Press release] A new paper on post–COVID-19 condition during the Alpha‐, Delta‐, and Omicron‐dominant waves in the general population has been published.
This study evaluated prevalence and risk factors for post–COVID-19 condition among 4,185 adults aged 18 to 79 years who were diagnosed as having COVID-19 between March 2021 and April 2022 in Yao City, Osaka, in comparison with 3,382 age- and sex-matched non-infected controls.
The frequency of post–COVID-19 condition was 15.0%, which was three times higher than the frequency of symptoms lasting more than two months in the control group.
Ageugia, muscle weakness, anosmia, hair loss, and brain fog were distinctive symptoms among infected persons.
Female sex, comorbidities, and hospitalization were positively associated with having post–COVID-19 condition. One or more vaccine doses of vaccination were inversely associated with post–COVID-19 condition.
