[Publication]A new paper authored by Dr. Okawa and Prof. Iso was published in the Scientific Reports.

This study was an online survey targeting 4,005 women who gave birth between January 2019 and February 2021 across Japan. We found that cigarette-only users and combination users of cigarettes and heated tobacco before pregnancy, as well as quitters during pregnancy, were more likely to terminate breastfeeding prematurely (before 6 months postpartum). Heated tobacco-only users before pregnancy showed a similar trend, although it was not statistically significant. Furthermore, we also revealed that women who ceased breastfeeding before 6 months postpartum were more likely to use cigarettes or heated tobacco after 6 months postpartum.
