This paper, as a series of papers from the previous year, describes the progress of COVID-19 vaccine development in Japan. In December 2023, a COVID-19 vaccine developed in Japan was approved and began to be supplied. As an international trend, one of the issues in the discussion of the pandemic treaty is “the access to medicines, including vaccines”. Japan is also discussing the need to continue supporting vaccine development, including various biopharmaceutical support, in anticipation of the next pandemic.
