[Publication] A new paper titled “Adolescent Loneliness in 70 Countries across Africa, America and Asia: A Comparison of Prevalence and Correlates” by Dr Hosozawa and Prof Iso et al. is published on the Journal of Adolescent Health.

This study examined the prevalence of loneliness and its correlates (i.e., sex, bullying victimization, and peer support) across 70 countries from five WHO regions using data from the Global School–based Student Health Survey of children aged 13–17 (2003–2018) years.

We found that adolescent loneliness is prevalent globally, especially in Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean.

While the role of sex and peer support on adolescent loneliness differed by country, bullying increased the prevalence of loneliness across countries highlighting that reducing bullying could be a common target for intervention across diverse countries.
