[Publication/Press] Prof. Iso et al. published a paper on the association between the timing of clinic visits and cardiovascular risk.

The paper entitled “Timing of clinic visits after health checks and risk of hospitalization for cardiovascular events and all-cause death among the high-risk population” by Prof. Iso et al. has been published in “Atherosclerosis.”

The Japan Health Insurance Association is making efforts to improve the rate of medical checks and health guidance, and to improve the rate of medical visits by those requiring medical treatment, thereby preventing the onset of serious diseases for those at high risk.
This study, focusing on the post-medical check recommendations, aimed to examine the association between the timing of clinic visits after health checks and the risk of hospitalization for cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality among the high-risk population.
A total of 412,059 high-risk individuals from the health claims database of the Japan Health Insurance Association were extracted. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to examine the associations between the timing of clinic visits after health checks and the risk of hospitalization for stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, or all-cause mortality. Compared to no clinic visit, an early clinic visit was associated with lower risks of hospitalization for cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality, and the risk reductions appeared to be greater in the hospitalization for stroke and heart failure.
This study suggested the importance of encouraging high-risk individuals to seek medical care at an earlier stage in lifestyle-related disease prevention policy.
