The paper entitled “Association between Health Indifference and Problem Drinking using a Nationwide Internet Survey” by Dr. Wakabayashi et al. has been published in Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine.

The goal of this study was to determine whether health indifference, as shown by the Health Interest Scale (HIS) and problem drinking, as determined by the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT), are related.

The result revealed that health-indifferent or lower health-interest groups were related to problem drinking, regardless of their socioeconomic status. In addition, we discovered that the health-interest group was more likely to engage in moderate drinking than the health-indifferent group. It could be helpful to identify the health-indifferent group through HIS and to track the effectiveness of health intervention for this group for the reduction of health inequality.
